How to Support Nong Grace
Nong Grace
Nong Grace was born on 11th July 2003. She is now nearly seven years old. Her father is Panrit “Gor” Daoruang, widely acclaimed as “Thailand’s most famous Internet teenager”. Gor, who was originally called Nattawud but asked a monk to change it for him after a string of bad luck, has been writing about his life since the age of 12 on his thailandlife.com website. He has documented every aspect of Thai life and culture through the numerous episodes in his life. Indeed, the international newspapers have said that he has done more to promote Thailand and the Thai way of life than the official tourism office. The Singapore Straits Times called him “Thailand’s youngest ambassador”.

Gor has never been shy about revealing his darkest secrets. It is his openness and honesty that has made him friends all over the world. His personal website receives an average of 3,000 unique visitors every day. When Gor was only 16, he became the youngest columnist at the Bangkok Post. For over two years, he wrote about the ups and downs of his life. People were fascinated about his courtship, marriage and the birth of his baby daughter (though it didn’t quite happen in that order). His marriage was broadcast live over the Internet and was watched by hundreds of people from around the world. When Nong Grace was born, thousands of people were eagerly visiting his website daily for the latest news and pictures.

Sadly, the teenage marriage was doomed to failure and Gor’s wife left him for another man. Nong Grace was only two years old at the time. She has only seen her mother two brief times in the last year. Gor took the breakup badly and went back on drugs. He had first been addicted to drugs when he was 15. He had written about it in the Bangkok Post and had promised everyone that he wouldn’t take drugs again. He was arrested by the police for drug possession and then later the court sentenced him to three years in prison.

Nong Grace is fortunate that she has people around her that give her love and support. She lives with her grandparents at their home in Samut Prakan. Gor's Internet friends from around the world have come together to help support Nong Grace. They help pay her tuition fees and also send her gifts and presents on her birthday and at Christmas. Nong Grace is better off than many other Thai children that have been "abandoned" by their parents.
